Be Kind
Working with people always requires patience and understanding. In professional relationships, especially when working remotely, misunderstandings and distrust can easily happen.
Over the past ten years of working as a developer, I have met many different types of clients. Some of them were respectful and pleasant to work with, but others approached the conversation with suspicion or spoke in a harsh and controlling manner. In some cases, they treated freelancers as if they were untrustworthy from the very beginning.
It is understandable that people want to protect themselves from scams or bad experiences. However, assuming the worst about someone who is trying to help can create unnecessary tension and make collaboration difficult.
Why Kindness Matters
When communication starts with distrust or aggression, it affects both sides. Developers and freelancers are human beings as well, and they respond to how they are treated.
If someone repeatedly behaves in a disrespectful or hostile way, professionals may simply decide not to work with them again in the future. In the long run, this can limit opportunities and make it harder to build reliable working relationships.
Respectful communication, patience, and kindness create a much better environment for solving problems and completing projects successfully.
A Real Experience
On August 27, 2025, a client contacted me to build a completely new website for her company. She had only purchased a domain name and needed help connecting it to the hosting service.
To do this, I asked her to grant delegate access to her domain account so I could update the nameserver settings. I carefully explained the steps and guided her through the process.
However, she misunderstood the instructions and attempted to request access to my account instead. I tried several times to clarify the process, but she became frustrated and assumed I was treating her as if she did not understand technology.
Eventually we resolved the issue and the website project was completed successfully. However, the stressful interaction left a lasting impression. Even though she contacted me later for additional work, I still felt uncomfortable about working together again.
A Simple Reminder
Misunderstandings happen, especially when dealing with technical tasks. When something unexpected occurs, try to remain calm and ask questions before assuming the worst.
Most developers and professionals genuinely want to help and complete the work successfully. A little patience and kindness can make the experience better for everyone involved.
In the end, good communication and respectful behavior help build stronger and longer-lasting professional relationships.
Please, be kind.
